Cold Iron Studios: Aliens: Fireteam Elite
Content Lead - Honoring a Franchise with Heart-Pumping Action Combat
As co-lead design on Aliens: Fireteam Elite, the pressure was on to deliver an experience honoring the beloved Aliens franchise. With the help of my systems design co-lead, I defined the moment-to-moment experience of marines venturing into the Katanga refinery and facing off against hordes of xenomorphs, reminiscent of the action pacing of ALIENS.
Leading Mission Design
Pacing was everything for capturing the feel we wanted for the game. As such, I defined best practices of crafting the intricate wave-based encounters in A:FE, as well as the crucial pace of ramping up gameplay intensity in each ~20 minute mission.
Leading a small and talented team of content designers, I supervised the creation of the game’s mission content and extra modes, such as the Horde Mode I initially prototyped.
Working with level design, I also helped create and spawn the interior of the Endeavor, the game’s hub.
Expanding into Pathogen
The game’s fast-follow expansion brought a whole new campaign with new environments and enemies. As before, I set the experience expectations to pace combat in these new spaces, and supervised the creation of the new game modes.
